God, the Lion-Lamb

“God, The Lion-Lamb”

“… The Lord said in His heart, ‘I will never again curse the ground for man’s sake … nor will I again destroy every living thing as I have done.” Genesis 8:21

I don’t feel bad about avoiding correcting others or feeling bad after I do after reading this verse the other day. Those feelings express the heart of God more than I knew.

In this verse, God is remorseful over the flood of judgment and cursing the ground in Adam’s day. He executed judgment but regret doing so.  Justice had to be served, but God’s tender heart is grieved and He vows not to do it again. These words reveal the softness and compassion of God’s heart. Though He is strong in justice, He is soft with mercy. He is a Lion-Lamb in nature.

I see myself experiencing similar emotions and feeling it as a weakness. Now I see it differently. It is really a reflection of God’s heart. He made me to be like Him.

“Lord, I see my heart as yours in this area. Grant me the strength to be true to both mercy and justice and not shrink from either or be condemned by both.”
